Kitty Cat Crochet Hat Pattern

Crochet Toddler Hat

Now that Minnesota finally has some proper snow, it has me in the mood to crochet some winter gear like a mad woman. And I couldn't resist whipping up this little kitty cat hat for my youngest. Lately, she's been saying, "mom, I want to be a REAL cat". While this hat won't exactly make her a 'real' cat, I think it will be a hit.

Hat Size:

  • Fits 4 year old toddler

Materials:

  • 2 skiens of yarn (1 worsted weight yarn & 1 light weight yarn)

  • Size H (5 mm) crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

Instructions:

Hat Body

Row 1: Cast on or work a row of 20 foundation single crochet stitches. Check out this video for how to make the foundation single crochet stitch. Watch it HERE.

Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Work hdc in each stitch across.

Repeat row 2 until the piece is long enough to wrap around your child's head. For us, we ended up with 33 rows.

Now you have a nice long rectangle. Fold it in half widthwise, and stitch sides of hat together with yarn needle. Next, stitch closed the open top of the hat.

Finish off and weave in the ends. Then, flip the hat inside out so the seams are on the inside of the hat.

Hat Brim

Row 1: Join the yarn by the seam and work single crochet stitches evenly around the open edge of the hat. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around. Slip stitch to join. Rnd 3 - 4: Repeat row 2. Finish off and weave in ends.
